Farm Shop

The famous Farm Shop at Tebay has always been an innovative improvement on the whole motorway services offer; until the opening of Gloucester Services, there wasn’t another one quite like it in 2,705 miles of motorway in the UK. Tebay Services Farm Shop was extended to 500 sqm and overhauled with a modern but very natural feel.

The shop at Tebay Services is split into three sections: farm shop, lifestyle, and convenience. All three spaces connect in a relatively open plan design. The concept was to define each area separately, but for all three to work as one.

The Farm Shop includes a deli counter, butcher’s counter, and mini kitchen. Hand-stencilled graphics provide a backdrop to the deli and butchers counters, drawing the eye to the fresh products in the counter displays. A polished screed floor and deep mole/taupe-coloured units combine to give an earthy feel to the farm shop.

To improve the flexibility of the display space in the lifestyle area, we designed a bespoke display system for easy seasonal product changes. Painted rough-sawn timber was placed strategically to enable clothes rails and pegs to be hung.

The convenience area was designed around function, bearing in mind its high turn-over of product, so each unit was individually designed around the separate products. We also designed a self-service coffee station, with a mind to keeping it neat and efficient for customer use, whilst housing the coffee machine and condiments.
